Canadian Great Divide Trail Log

Welcome to the archive of my trail journal for my 2016 walk of the Canadian Great Divide Trail.  =This undertaking was shared with my cousin River Taig and his dog Opus. Follow us along this 1200 km adventure through the Canadian Rockies.

(note the journal starts in the middle and goes to the beginning)

I left Eugene on the July 2nd. Stopped in Portland to pick up my new Fuji X-Pro 2 camera. Wow. Talk about a fun camera to work with. It's a big upgrade over the X-E2. The optical viewfinder with the active crop overlay is great.  It's kind of like my Fuji GW690 but smaller and with auto focus.  The X-E2 is with me on standby. Backup body nearby.

Camera bag - photos to follow. I took a small lowepro top loading hip pack and modified it to work with the waist strap on my Hyperlight backpack. Many thanks to hydrofit in Eugene for sewing a new loop in place.  I also took a pair of scissors to the bag and removed and an ounce of useless material. I don't need a handle. Extra glass is in a small sea line dry bag. Camera will go in either a 4L or 8 L bag. Batteries cable release and filter stuff is in a small iPad mini waterproof bag system from B&H (4.95)

tripod  I was going to use the Gitzo traveler series 1 for the entire trip. It is an amazing piece of engineering. Super stout at only 2.5 lbs.  I also just picked up a a really right stuff table top setup. It's way strong and only 9oz with the head. But it's super tiny and the head only goes to a 45 degree angle. This week will be telling on how it performs.  I'm so used to something big.... But 9oz is impossible to ignore.

Lego guy. Pet sub project.  #5yearsold  I'm going to shoot a series of photos of him daily on the trip. How knows maybe that will prove more intern then the landscape photos. :)
